“For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man
which is in him? Even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit
of God:“ sometimes referred to as God’s “Secret Will.” In
modern English: For who knows a person’s thoughts except the
spirit of that person which is in him? Even so no one knows the things
of God except the Spirit of God.
Therefore, if "no one knows the things of God except the Spirit
of God" no man or woman can know if God wants or does not want a
particular baby to be born. If God wanted every baby to be born, considering
God is all powerful, then miscarriages would not exist. Since miscarriages
do exist, then no man or woman can know if miscarriages are how God aborts
babies he does not want to be born. So miscarriages could be God’s
abortions, and you cannot know because “no one knows the things
of God except the Spirit of God.”
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists estimates that
30% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. The medical term for a miscarriage
is “spontaneous abortion.” Science cannot explain why biological,
pre-sentient life begins when cells from the male and female unite. It
is a mystery. It is equally true that scientists cannot explain why some
miscarriages occur, especially since some women miscarry so early that
they never knew they were pregnant.
Theologians say that God has a “secret will.” His secret
will, Christians believe, is that God is sovereign and rules meticulously
over everything. Nothing happens outside of his "perfect will." It’s
called “hidden” will because we cannot truly know his will.
The bible unmistakably states in Genesis 6–9 that God directly
killed every zygote, embryo, fetus, unborn baby, infant, and child on
earth when he sent the flood. God indirectly killed unborn babies, small
children, and infants when he commanded his followers to attack Amalek
in 1 Samuel 15:3.
There is actually nothing written in the bible that says that God miraculously
creates life at conception. Regardless, anti-abortion Christians attempt
to justify their beliefs by quoting cherry-picked bible verses out of
the context in which they were written.
Miscarriages occur every day. If God miraculously creates life at conception,
then God is omnipotent. If God is omnipotent, he also has the power to
cause a spontaneous abortion (miscarriage). If God cannot prevent miscarriages,
then he is not omnipotent. But if God is omnipotent and refuses to prevent
miscarriages, then he is either directly terminating unwanted pregnancies
with every miscarriage, or indirectly terminating unwanted pregnancies
by allowing them.
How can we make that assertion? God has a secret will, you say? The bible
says that God tested Job by literally allowing his children to be killed.
Job did not know God's secret will. So if you cannot know God's “secret
will,” then you cannot know if God is terminating unwanted pregnancies
to test faith or simply because he did not want the baby to be born.
Therefore, if God miraculously creates life at conception, then God could
be miraculously aborting unborn babies whether there is a scientific explanation
for the miscarriage or not. On the other hand, if miscarriages occur due
to biological reasons, then God does not miraculously create life at conception,
and therefore, conception and the spontaneous abortion are biological.
You cannot have it both ways.
